HBCI
Abbreviation for "Home Banking Computer Interface": an additional secure connection that can be recognized by the https protocol.
HDML (Handheld Device Markup Language)
A markup language adapting Web content for display on mobile handheld devices such as cell phones, pagers or PDAs.
Hit
English term for "access": An entry in a protocol file (log file) of a web server is described as a hit. However, no reliable conclusions can be made regarding the number of users, the visits or the called pages from the number of hits because proxy and other cache mechanisms force down the number of registered hits, and push comprehensive multimedia elements, images and icons the entries upwards in the log file. Thus, pages with a high number of graphic elements generate more hits than simply designed pages for the same page impression.
Homepage
Start and welcome page of a WWW offer in the Internet - e.g. www.name.de. From the homepage, the visitor then reaches the further contents of the WWW offer via links.
Host
A host is the computer (server) who provides the services that the user makes use of by Internet. The entire Internet appearance is saved on this computer.
HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data)
A software upgrade for the GSM standard which provides enhanced, cost-effective high speed data services across existing networks.
HTML
Stands for "Hypertext Markup Language" - the basic "programming" language of the Internet that is interpreted by the browser.
HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol)
This is used to exchange data and documents in the WWW.
HTTPS (Secure Hyper Text Transfer Protocol)
The secure variant of HTTP is HTTPS. This enables an encryption of the data transmission between browsers and servers in the WWW.
Hypertext
Hypertext is distinguished from normal continuous text by cross-references (Hyperlinks) to other documents or text locations. By clicking on a marked text location or other object inserted in the text (e.g. graphics) the referenced document or the relevant text location is automatically displayed, or a file is downloaded, or another program started or....
Hypertext Links / Hyperlink
Optically highlighted, the Hyperlink - also called the "Link" - is used as a cross-reference to another document within the same server or to external offers.
